Great job to all swimmers last night - lots of fantastic swims and time improvements! Best of luck to those moving on to the Finals meet tonight - the timeline is the same as Prelims:
- 3:45 - Show at Oak Marr (no bus)
- 4:00-5:15 - Open Warm-Ups
- 5:30 Meet start
- Let Coach Bussian know if you will not be able to make the meet.
When our championship meets are conducted in a “pre-lims/finals” format, the top 8 swimmers from the Prelims meet make the “A” heat and the next 8 make the “B” heat for the Finals meet. Two alternates are also designated for slots that may open due to drops or missing swimmers (at Clerk of Course). Regardless of a swimmer’s time in the Finals meet, the places are locked in their A/B finals. In other words, a swimmer in “A” finals cannot get lower than 8th place and a swimmer in “B” finals cannot get higher than 9th place.

The Region Swim meet is organized as a prelims/finals style meet. Prelims are Friday, 2/2; finals are Saturday, 2/3. The Region Meet Format is available in the Files section. The following boys are entered into the Region meet:
|
Schedule for Friday, 2/2:
Bus – 2:25 at door 20
Subways – stop & eat
Leave for Oak Marr: 3:00
Warm Ups 4:00-5:15
Meet Starts: 5:30
Cost: $7.00 entrance; $3.00 program
We will have bus transportation for the prelims meet - right after school on Friday. Swimmers are required to ride the bus. The team provides Subways for each athlete – please stop by Coach Bussian’s room (2026) to make your order by end of the school day Wed.
Unless you are contacted by Coach Bussian, swimmers are entered in the same individual events as Districts. The Region meet IS a USA sanctioned meet, so times WILL count for USA times. Please contact Coach Bussian by Sunday evening if you have questions regarding your individual events. Relay entries are always subject to change.
The team also provides each athlete with a Region t-shirt. This year’s shirt is long-sleeved. Orders for t-shirts will be made by Coach Bussian. Please check the size indicated next to your name (from your pre-season order form). If you would like a different size than the one listed, please contact Coach Bussian ASAP by email.
Volunteer requirements are small: we need one timer for each night, more are allowed, as are volunteers for Clerk of Course and Marshalls. Please contact Coach Bussian if you would like to help. Good Luck to our Region meet athletes!

This meet is not like others. We have to send in our volunteer names. We cannot wait until the meet to identify who is working.
Please read the “High School Swimming Information 2017-2018” document in the Files section for more information on post-season championship meets, qualifying criteria/cuts for swimmers, etc (pg 2). The Meet Formats for the Region and State meets are also available in the Files section.

Save the date – we are in the planning stages for our end-of-season banquet, tentatively planned for Sunday, 3/4, 5:00-8:00 pm. Stay tuned for more details.

Fantastic job last week against Battlefield and Madison!! Battlefield was a super exciting meet (great swims!). Both meets have highlights posted in Summaries & Headlines. Results are posted (or will be shortly) in our school messenger site (access code S53AS3).
Practices: Tuesday and Wednesday @ Colgan; NO PRACTICE Thursday (due to meets for other schools)
Mandatory Team meeting: Thursday, 1/18/18 (lecture hall left), 2:30-2:50 pm (after girls’ team picture) - Counts as a practice, attendance will be taken.
Friday, 1/19/18 – OP meet @ Colgan (three meets again)
Show time: 4:30 pm
Warm Ups: 5:00 pm
Meet Starts: 6:00 pm
Saturday: NO DIVE MEET
Conference Meets - Thursday (dive 1/25/18); Friday (swim 1/26/18):
Teams may enter a max of four swimmers per individual event and one relay team per relay event. As in dual meets, individuals swim a maximum of four events, no more than two of which can be individual events. Unlike dual meets, however, these meets do not have exhibition swims, do have meet heat sheets ($1.00), use touch pads and the scoreboard, have an entrance fee ($7.00) and have a special t-shirt to purchase (pre-orders only).
All swimmers are expected to attend the Conference Meets and support their team, even if they are not swimming/diving. Approximately 18-20 swimmers per team will be entered into the meet in individual/relay events. Entries are due by Tuesday, 1/23. A list of swimmers entered will be posted on this website.
Each team has volunteer responsibilities for these meets. In addition to timers/recorders, teams are required to provide marshalls (great viewing of the meet!). Each team also has new responsibilities for Championship meets – Patriot will host the Hospitality Room for the entire meet. The Hospitality Room provides food and drink for officials and coaches. In addition to staffing the location during the meet, there is a behind-the-scenes requirement as well. We will need someone/people to purchase and prepare the food we will be providing. Costs are covered by the conference. We still have positions to fill on our sign-up sheet. Volunteers will get a wristband to enter the meet free of charge (These will be passed out at the OP meet, please be sure to pick yours up).
Additional information will be available in the meet announcement in the Files section.
Seniors: please send Coach Bussian a baby picture by Thursday, 1/18/18
Conference meet t-shirt --- pre-order only. To order, please do one of the following:
- Use the google form here
- Print and fill out an order sheet (in the Files section) and give to a coach in practice/school
Orders (and money) are due by Thursday 1/18/18 – no money/no order (make checks payable to Battlefield High School)

Tryouts start Monday, 11/6. Our format is different this year. Swimmers who are not year-round/club swimmers (or swim less than 4 practices per week) will have an alternating schedule for the four days of tryouts: 1st day practice, 2nd day time trials, 3rd day practice, 4th day time trials. Swimmers who are year-round/club swimmers (with 4 or more practices per week) have the opportunity to complete their time trial events in one session – Monday 11/6 at the Freedom Center. Year-round swimmers may elect to split up their time trial events into two sessions if they choose to do so.
For time trials, swimmers will swim three events for time: 100 FR, 100 IM and 100 CH (their choice of BK, BR, or FL). Times will be ranked in order (least to greatest) and swimmers will get points based on position. The scores for the three events will be combined for an overall score. Coaches will also be monitoring proper execution of each of the strokes, your starts and turns. Approximately the top 30 swimmers will make the team. Swimmers with special considerations or schedule conflicts need to speak to Coach Bussian prior to tryouts.
Parents: we desperately need your help during time trials! Last year coaches had to time multiple lanes during trials. Normally the coaches provide back-up timing. This situation increased the chance of missing a time. Please consider offering your help during one or more sessions when your swimmer is assigned to complete time trials. Those who are willing and able to help with tryouts please click here to sign up. Thank you!
