What a great year! Nine school records were set this season including five at the state meet. We had a great group make it to the state meet. A couple of the highlights:
Henry Birge, a sophomore won the 1000 Meter State Championship in a state meet record of 2:26.40. That is the number six All-Time performance in Virginia history. (He also broke his school record set earlier this year).
Sidney Nolan placed second in the 500 in 1:13.06, the number nine All-Time in Virginia history, and then doubled back in the next event to run 2:57 in the 1000 for 7th. She broke her school record for the third time.
Lyndon Amoateng set a new personal best and better his school record to place third in the triple jump. Lyndon hopped, skipped, and jumped to 46' 1.75.
The girls' 4x200 (Ashley Bowman, Rebekah Ainerua, Sierra Whitaker, Karlee Brasfield) broke their school record and surprised everyone with a fourth-place finish. The girls 4x800 ran a season-best to place fourth in the 4x800 relay (Daniela Ansah, Rena Johnson, Jaya Djigo, Sidney Nolan). Despite not feeling well, Rena Johnson gutted out a fourth-place finish in the 1000-meter run.
Korkor Sackey placed fifth in the high jump with a jump of 5-2. She had great attempts at 5'4.
Catherine Blankenship placed seventh in the pole vault with a new personal best of 9'6". The boys' 4x400 relay team broke the school record in 3:26.15 to place seventh (Nick Daly, Henry Ausby, Henry Birge, Wathen Montgomery).
The girls team placed 10th and the boys 13th at state.
We had several just miss scoring but many new personal bests!

Congratulations to our boys and girls for a great meet yesterday.
The boys pulled out a second place finish! Highlight a few of the top performances: Henry Birge, only a sophomore, was ranked third in the 1600 but pulled off an impressive win in a new PR. He came back to get third in the 1000-meter run. Lyndon Amoateng was runner-up in the triple jump and 6th in the long jump adding three more points than he was ranked. The 55 hurdles were big with Nick and Wathen going 4th and 5th with Brooks Montgomery grabbing the 8th spot to add a point. In the pole vault, Carter Warren had a big day to get second and Kevin Miner was 5th and also grabbed an 8th in the shotput. In the 500 Nick Daly finished second for a very impressive day. Nick worked very hard on the bike and did everything he could early in the season, now still competing with a cast showed all that hard work paid off big. For the 300, we were supposed to get zero points but Wathen and Omar Allen had different ideas taking 6th and 7th to add five valuable points. Our 4x2 was third to get six more points (Omar Allen, Luke Manning, Daniel Ainerua, Aaron Glover). The 4x8 guys that scored 3 points earlier in the week were Kaiden Brewer, Andrew White, Jayden Angulo, and Brady Widlake). All of our guys competed hard and gave everything!
The girls placed third in the meet (up from last year's 6th place) and had individual championship wins from Korkor Sackey and Sidney Nolan. Korkor won the high jump and Sidney set a new meet record in the 500 (1:14.13 which converts to a 1:13.2 on a bank track), and she also got a second in the 1000-meter run and a win on the 4x800 relay earlier in the week. Rena Johnson ran a 4:56 1600 to break the old meet record but was edged out in the 1600 and ran a tough 3200 (10:53) with runner-up performances, to go along with the 4x800 win. Catherine Blankenship placed 4th in the pole vault and Mide Akinkugbe placed 4th in the shotput. Our 4x4 girls had a great race to place fourth (Reagan Jones, Niya Stephenson, Rebekah Ainerua, Maddy Waters) and the girls 4x200 placed 5th (Davina Owusu, Rebekah Ainerua, Sierra Whitaker, Karlee Brassfield). Ashley Bowman placed 7th in the 55 Hurdles and Reagan Jones was 7th in the 500. Jaya Djigo was 8th in the 1600. The 4x800 team that won earlier in the week included Jaya and Reagan with Rena and Sidney.
What a great meet with a lot of personal bests and kids really stepping up big. We had many kids who didn't score but they put out tremendous effort. Very proud of you all!

Cedar Run District Champions! Both the boys and girls swept the district championships! What a great district meet! It was cold for the field events and 4x800 but a nice day for the track events. The boys won their fourth straight district championship and the girls won their first since 2021. We had 12 district champions, a 1-4 sweep in boys boy vault, three school records, and six runner-up finishes. In what was a close meet on paper turned out to be pretty big wins. We had so many step up and set a personal best. Congratulations! Patriot results below and meet results are here:

Hi everyone!
A reminder that tomorrow (Wednesday) is picture day. We will be taking team and individual shots in the gym. We need to be ready by 2:50 pm. We will not meet at the track until after pictures. Head to the locker rooms and get ready. Then we will line you up in the gym. Everyone needs to be in their uniform. Senior and individual shots can use props such as spikes, a hurdle, shot put, etc.
We will practice at the track starting at 3:10 pm.
This past week’s meet at Liberty we had another great meet. In a meet with well over 100 schools Patriot had several athletes place in the top twenty. As you can see from the results we have a great group on the boys and girls side and we still have not open Jackson McCarter or Nick Daly, who both will make a big difference.
Some of the highlights:
Lyndon Amoateng had his best triple jump ever, and also his best series of jumps. Lyndon won jumping 44’ 9.25” to win by almost a foot! Lyndon’s jump is #2 All Time at Patriot, .25 of an inch from his brother’s record (Grant Amoateng). Talk about motivation! Lyndon also placed 7th in the long jump with a leap of 21-0.
Rena Johnson broke the 5 min barrier in the 1600 running 4:58.29 to lead the state. She double back later to 2:55.75 in the 1000 meter run for 3rd. Rena is #2 All-Time for Patriot in the 1600 and #4 All-Time in the 1000 meters. She also missed the 3200 meter school record by two seconds at the Wednesday Polar Bear meet. She should get that this Saturday when she runs the 3200 for the first time indoors this season.
Sidney Nolan placed second in the 1000 meters and leads the state in the 500 and 1000 meters. Sidney ran the #3 All Time mark for Patriot. Sidney and Rena are currently 1-2 in the state rankings.
Mide Akinkugbe placed third in the shot put. Mide is #2 All-Time in the indoor shot and very close to the school record (36-0.5 by Nonnie Anonyou) and is throwing two feet better consistently than last indoor.
Henry Birge placed third in the 1600 for a big personal best running 4:25.64 for third in the 1600 meter run. That is number four All-Time at Patriot. Henry came back and placed fifth in the 500 in 1:07.28 (#6 All Time).
KorKor Sackey placed fourth in the high jump in 5-0. KorKor has a best of 5-02 this season (#2 All Time at Patriot).
Carlos Garcia placed fifth in the 1600 for a new personal best. #5 All Time at Patriot!
Carter Warren was 5th in the pole vault in 12-6. Evan Kutner had a foot personal best to jump 10-6 (9th).
The girls 4x400 relay (Frances Rein, Rena, Jaya Djigo, Sidney) placed 5th and own a best of 4:09 so far this season.
Wathen Montgomery placed 7th in the 55 Hurdles with a new personal best to make the finals. Wathen then tied his personal best in the finals (7.93)!
Lydia Landers, a freshman placed 7th in the high jump clearing 4-10!
Kaiden Brewer placed 7th in the 3200 breaking ten with a 9:52. Sherlyn Philip also placed 7th running 12:47, an indoor personal best.
Catherine Blankenship placed 9th in the pole vault with an 8-6 vault.
That is a lot of athletes to earn top ten placing in such a huge meet! We had a lot earn top 25 also.

Highlights after the first day of competition at the Cedar Run District Indoor Track & Field Championships. The first-day events took place at Osbourn Park. Day two (Tuesday, 2-7) is at Unity Reed and starts at 1 pm.
The boys put up 61 points and have a 36-point lead over Osbourn Park and the rest of the conference. The girls are in third with 22 points, behind Osbourn Park (49) and Battlefield (40).
- The boys 4x800 ran the fastest time ever for Patriot history during the indoor season, winning the event in 8:07.14. That is currently ranked #2 in Virginia's 6A classification. James Fillmore (2:02), Carlos Garcia (2:02), Jacob Casey (2:03), Patrick Lowry (1:59). It was cold and windy.
- The high jump was difficult with cold weather and wind gusts of 20 mph. That didn't stop our guys. The boys' high jump SWEPT. I am not talking top three. The guys went 1st through 7th! The top six scored, so high jump put up 31 points. Shadrack Nvodjo is your district champion, with Connor Balcom and Bryan Bivens tied for second. Kendall Robin, Chase James, Wathen Montgomery, and Malik Dark advance to the region championships. Brendan Stevens and Brooks Montgomery were close to qualifying.
- The girls 4x800 relay placed second with a 10:04 performance. That is the fastest time for Patriot in the last four years. Reagan Jones (2:34), Rena Johnson (2:26), Sidney Nolan (2:22), Camila Weber (2:37).
- In the girls' shot put we were 3rd and 4th with Chim Okafor taking third, just missing her personal best with a 30' 10.50. Mide Akinkugbe didn't have a good day, but even being off still placed fourth in 30' 9.50. She is looking forward to regionals.
- In the boys' long jump, Patriot placed 4th - 7th. Malik Dark took fourth in 19-11, Lyndon Amoateng fifth in 19-9, and Eddie Henry II placed sixth in 19-8.75. Kevin Miner misses regional qualifying by one place.
- In the girls high jump, Jolene Adu and Davina Owusu tied for 5th (4-4) to advance to regionals.

The Patriot boys' indoor track & field team won the school's first regional championship for indoor! Competing at the PG Complex in Landover, MD the boys won a close meet with Colonial Forge that came down to the final event, with Patriot winning by two points, 102-100. Patriot picked up big points in the pole vault (17 points), 1600 (17 points), and the 1000 (18 points) but the team needed points across all the events to pull off the victory. Region champions included Patrick Lowry in the 1600 and 1000 and Rena Johnson in the girls' 1600. Rena won the closest race of the day winning the 1600 by .02 of a second.
Carter Warren placed second in the pole vault, freshman Henry Birge ran an awesome race to snag second in the 1000-meter run, and Chim Okafor had a HUGE personal best to place second in the shotput with a 34-4 foot heave. The girls' 4x800 team ran a great race placing second in 9:50 (Reagan Jones, Sidney Nolan, Rena Johnson, Camila Weber).
Athletes finishing in third include Sidney Nolan in the 500, Lyndon Amoateng in the triple jump (5th to 3rd in his final jump!), and the 4x400 (Connor Balcom, Nick Daly, Malik Dark, Wathen Montgomery) and 4x800 (Henry Birge, Carlos Garcia, James Fillmore, Patrick Lowry) relay teams. Mide Akinkugbe was determined to make it to states after districts and she did it with a throw of 32' 0 to place third.
Moving onto the state championships in Virginia Beach: Lyndon Amoateng (Triple jump), Kendall Robin (High Jump), Carter Warren (Polevault), Patrick Lowry (qualified in 1600, 1000, 3200), Henry Birge (1000), Nick Daly (55 Hurdles), our boys 4x200, 4x400 and 4x800 relays. The girls qualified in the 4x800, Rena Johnson (1600 and 3200), Sidney Nolan (500), Chim Okafor (shotput), Mide Akinkugbe (shotput).

The boys 4x200 relay of Eddie Henry II, Jackson McCarter, Malik Dark and Shadrack Nvodjo ran the fastest 4x200 in school history - 1:31.52 at the Liberty Premiere meet. The first time ever for Patriot to break 1:32.0. They broke the old record set by the 2019 4x200 team that ran 1:32.28 at the state meet for fourth place (Dorryen Henley, Jack Daly, Marcus Wilson, Noah Hackerson). To give them credit, those four ran their times on a flat track which would convert to 1:30.98 if on a bank track.
Patrick Lowry ran the fastest 3200 meters indoors, which was after racing the 1600 earlier in the day in 9:27.87. He is the first Patriot athlete to break 9:30 indoors. Patrick broke Colin Doran’s 3200 record set last year.
We now also have eight athletes achieving the state standard. Our boys 4x200 relay, Patrick in the 1000, 1600, and 3200-meter runs. Kendall Robin in the high jump, Rena Johnson in the 1600 and 3200-meter runs, and Sidney Nolan in the 500-meter run have all punched their ticket to the state championship meet in Virginia Beach.

We finished a busy week with two meets and had excellent results. We had well over 100 kids compete on Wednesday and then at the Battlefield Invite our boys’ team WON the meet. 19 teams scored points and Patriot had 96. Wednesday meet at Gainesville High School, the meet starts at 2 pm. PLEASE wear your Patriot Track & Field long-sleeve shirt at school.
Slight change - we will get out of class at 12:15 instead of 12:30 pm. Teachers will already have your names for dismissal. They generally do not make an announcement. Please come down to the locker rooms and change. We leave at 12:30 pm and we have three buses.
They are going to start field events 45 minutes after the last school arrives (so hoping to start those prior to 2. Running events will start around 2:15 to 2:30 when the electronic timer is set up. We start with the 4x800 relay and 3200-meter run - they will start together with boys and girls.
Meet Order of events:
4x800/ 3200-meter run boys and girls
55Hurdles, girls first then boys for the rest of meet
55-meter dash
1600-meter run
4x200 relay
500-meter dash
1000-meter run
300-meter dash
4x400 meter relay
For field events - I believe the long jump for boys and girls will be first then the triple jump. Not sure about the shotput, pole vault or high jump on who goes first (boys or girls)? We will find out when we get there.

We had a great first meet at Liberty University. It was a long day, but the kids did great. Everyone checked in on time, was clerk in the correct area and no one missed their race. We also performed really well, especially for the first meet.
We had 15 boys achieve district qualifying marks in 21 events. Shadrack Nvodjo and Malik Dark qualified in three events each, Nick Daly and Lyndon Amoateng in two events. Of those 15 boys, five achieve regional standards already! Shadrack, Malik, Patrick Lowry, James Fillmore, and Carlos Garcia already punched their tickets to regionals. Patrick Lowry did one better by also getting the state standard in the 3200 meters. Shadrack (HJ) and Patrick each won an event!

The first week went well. We tested seven areas. 100 meters, broad jump, shot put, vertical, deadlift, 400 meters, and an endurance challenge with exercises, sprints, hills and finished with an 800. The testing was to help athletes and coaches figure out what event area they may be best suited for. The ultimate decision is given to the athletes, however. If the athletes like the events they are practicing, they will bring more passion and drive to practice. If an athlete tries an event area and doesn't like it they may switch.
For most of the team they are divided by sprinters/ hurdles and mid distance to distance. For high jump, pole vault, shot put, long and triple jump those events are by invitation only. We look at interest in doing the event, testing results and what we see in practice. Those events are limited because if you have too many, not much coaching gets done and very few reps.
This week we have the winter sports parent meeting on Thursday starting at 6:30 pm in the auditorium. After the general meeting parents will break up into the sports their student-athletes is competing in.
Friday is our fund raiser. We will have food and drinks for all the kids following practice. The fund raiser goes from 5pm to 6:30pm (usually done a little earlier). Each athlete needs to bring their Hour-A-Thon list of contact numbers of family and friends that they will send a personal text too and then follow up with a phone call. This is a quick and easy fundraiser that raises quite a bit of money. Our hope is the fundraiser will cover our entry fees (estimated at $7000), equipment costs, and trail work. We will answer any questions about this on Thursday or via email to Coach James.
Football concessions: If you can help at the football playoff game your help would greatly be appreciated. Please sign up here:

2022-23 Patriot H.S. Indoor Track & Field
Welcome to a season that we hope produces great memories and brings a sense of fulfillment and pride in each athlete’s accomplishments. Our coaching staff gets to coach a sport that challenges every athlete, that allows everyone equal “playing time”, and that brings the best together to compete against each other from all over the nation. It's head-to-head competition in all divisions and at the same time teaches healthy life habits. Put in the work and you will leave faster, stronger, healthier and I believe happier.
Showing heart, desire and dedication happens for all athletes during competitions – but it counts most on the days that people aren’t watching. Great programs run, lift weights and do core. They cheer for each other and encourage each other to get better. They come prepared with the correct clothes, water bottle and recovery snack and with an “I can do this” attitude. This happens at every level from the beginner to the state champion. This will define Patriot. It starts with you.
We are excited to work with you!

ORDERS ARE DUE THIS SUNDAY! ORDER HERE!
If you have a uniform from last year you are good. If you are new you need to buy the jersey (singlet) and shorts (shorts can be half tights or shorts for guys and the power race day boy shorts for girls). This is the same uniform we use in outdoor track and also cross country so you will not need another uniform if you have one from those sports.
We would like everyone to have the red Track & Field hoodie and the long sleeve technical shirt (we have a V-neck option for girls but can order either long sleeve). All the other items below the uniform are optional items. Parents can also buy a t-shirt, sweatshirt, etc to wear at meets if you would like.
ORDERS ARE DUE THIS SUNDAY so we will have them in time for the first meet.
