Girls Varsity Field Hockey
All rising Sophomore, Junior, and Senior JV and Varsity players, please stop by Coach R's room ASAP for some quick information! Coach B and I have an amazing adventure in store!
Workouts will be from 2:00-3:15 on Mondays and Thursdays after school! We will meet in the hall between the annex gym and weight room. Come prepared for conditioning, weight-lifting, and possible outdoor stick training. This means you need sneakers, cleats, appropriate outdoor attire, indoor attire, shin guards, mouth guards, and sticks. If you are new to the sport, don’t worry, we have extra equipment.
If you cannot attend after school workouts and are not currently involved in another sport, please use the “Footwork & Agility” and “Alternative Strength Training” documents located in the "Files" section of the website to exercise outside of school! The footwork and agility drills may also be done with a stick and ball to improve stick skills! There are many options and exercises in each of these documents, so choose a few to complete each day. If you have any questions about exercises, please contact Coach Balsano.
We will be holding meetings during flex 2 (6th period) on Tuesday, November 18 and after school on Wednesday, November 19 in room 1120. Attendance at one of these meetings is mandatory, as we will be discussing our service project that is in support of one of our teammates! If you are coming to the flex meeting, please get a pass from Coach Ritonia or Coach B in advance. Thanks girls!
Our Community Service project is quickly approaching! With the help of one of our awesome families, The Holroyd's, we will be sponsoring a 5k run/walk to benefit The Wounded Warriors Amputee Softball Team and their Kids Camp. This is a fantastic way for us to give back to our community, and support those who risk their lives to protect our country.
The event will take place on Sunday, November 23. Girls will be expected to arrive at 11:00 am and will finish at 3:00 pm. Community Service is a mandatory part of this team, and Coach B and I expect to see all of your lovely faces! If you are interest in running in the 5K or any family members would like to run, please let us know.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Coach B or myself. Thank you very much!
Remember to sign up for Winter Indoor League. We will be playing 8 games from December through February, and this is a perfect opportunity to work on your stick skills!
Click the following link to register. Registrations after November 15 will require a $10 late fee.
Make sure to turn in your money for the awards banquet and for senior gifts. The banquet will be held at Bristow Manor on Monday, November 3 at 6:00 pm. Please bring money for dinner by Friday, October 25. The price is $20.00 per person, and $5.00 for the senior gift. Let's celebrate a fantastic season!

USA FIELD HOCKEY FUTURES PROGRAM
USA Field Hockey's Futures Program is an elite training experience for U14, U16, and U19 athletes that consists of 27 hours of specialized training with some of the top coaches in the country. The Futures program is the start of the Olympic Development Pipeline and nearly all U.S. Women's National Team members and Olympians participated in the Futures Program. Futures is also one of the premier collegiate recruiting opportunities in the United States, with more than 80% of current Division I athletes having participated in the Futures program.

You MUST register for the trial with USAFH in order to be eligible to try out but you do not need to be a current USAFH member. Registration for Futures Trials is approximately $28. We are in Region 8 (South). Click here to register for the trials.
After registration, you will receive an email confirmation. PLEASE PRINT THE CONFIRMATION AND BRING IT WITH YOU TO THE TRIAL! You cannot be tested without this confirmation form!Click here for the individual field player test and the goalkeeper test that will be administered during the trial. Feel free to practice ahead of time, especially the 1-yard pulls!

Food and Fun
I will be using signupgenius.com to track volunteers.
The team will be having dinners at host homes on the evening before some games. Could you please host or help provide food? Dinners start on Thursday, August 14.
We also will provide snacks for girls on game days. Can you please bring something light and healthy to give the girls energy so that they can play their best? These start for the scrimmage on Friday, August 15th.
We are required to provide volunteers at the concession stands during our home games. Varsity Parents work during JV games and then JV parents work during Varsity games so that everyone gets the opportunity to their daughter(s) play. We are requesting that each family works at least three games. Please follow this link to volunteer. http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0e4ba5ae2aa6f85-20146

The Patriot Athletic Department would like to welcome new head field hockey coach Emily Ritonia and assistant field hockey coach Jessica Balsano to the coaching staff. Coach Ritonia brings a wealth of field hockey knowledge and game experience to Patriot. Emily is a local product and played prep field hockey and lacrosse at Middleburg Academy, formerly Notre Dame Academy. She was All-Conference and All-Met in field hockey during that time. She graduated from Virginia Tech and also received her Master's Degree in Secondary Education from St. John's University. She was the head girls’ lacrosse coach at James Madison High School in New York this past season. She will be a member of the Language Arts Department at Patriot as well as an assistant girls' lacrosse coach. Coach Ritonia will be moving to the area this summer and is excited to start working with the student-athletes at Patriot. Coach Ritonia will also be joined by Jessica Balsano from Bridgewater College where she played varsity field hockey and also coached JV softball at Spotswood High School during her student teaching. Coach Balsano will also teach in the Language Arts Department at Patriot next year. We are extremely happy to have Coach Ritonia and Coach Balsano join the coaching staff at Patriot.
