Alright, folks, the Red Storm is definitely rising and off and running. Great performance by our varsity wrestlers on Tuesday and thanks to all the JV who helped with setup/tear down and concessions. You made for a first class event at our home opener.

JV looked great last night at Brentsville and thanks to our varsity wrestlers who came over to support. Team dynamic is really strong and contributing to success on the mat.

It has been a quick start to the regular season coming out of the holiday, reminder on what is left:

Thurs, Dec 5:

6-8PM, Practice (focus on make weight for NOVA Classic and tune up on issues from recent competitions)

6:30PM, Seed Meeting at FFX HS for NOVA Classic, I will find out which extra wrestlers made it in and communicate immediately. If an extra wrestler does not make it in the bracket, they should plan to go to school on Friday

Fri, Dec 6:

7AM, Wrestlers, Managers and Driving Parents meet at T. Clay Parking Lot to load up and head to FFX HS for NOVA Classic

10AM Wrestling starts

Great effort from all at yesterday’s scrimmage at Brentsville and thanks to all who could come out and support. You can tell the work the team has been doing in the practice room is translating to success in competition. Reminder: Winter Sports Parent Meeting tomorrow, no practice, at 6:30PM in Cmmons 2. Please enter through Door 28.

Updates on the scrimmage at Brentsville and Plan for next week:

Doors will open on Saturday at 8:00, we will not take a team bus to the scrimmage.  Have your wrestler there no later than 8:30 to warm up.  Wrestling will go from 9-11:00.

Families are invited.  All will enter through Door 21.

For next week:

Monday- No practice due to the Winter Sports meeting for parents of student athletes.  It will be conducted in 2 phases:

Phase 1- Mr. Qualls will address all Winter Sports families on VHSL rules and Patriot HS expectations for conduct during sporting events.

Phase 2- Wrestling break out meeting, I will address the near-term calendar and other interest items specific to our team.

Meeting starts at 6:30 in Commons 2, enter through door 28.

Tuesday-Wednesday- Practice 6-8PM.

Thursday- NO PRACTICE, Happy Thanksgiving.

Friday- Practice 2:30-4:00 (Tentative), still need to lock this one in with the Athletic Director.

Plan of the Week, Nov 18-23:

Practice: Monday-Friday, 6-8PM (may end a little early Friday since we scrimmage on Saturday at Brentsville District HS.

Scrimmage:

Who: Patriot Varsity and JV

What: Scrimmage vs. Brentsville, Chantilly, Millbrook (really an enhanced practice with other schools)

When: Nov 23, 9-11AM, doors open at 8:00. We will not have a bus for this event, showtime no later than 8:30 at BDHS for warm up

Where: Brentsville District HS 12109 Aden Rd, Nokesville, VA 20181

Why: Continue to improve technique and tune up for regular season against other school athletes.

Uniform is practice attire. Headgear is advised, not required, particularly if you are fitting a new set. Dual sided mouthpieces are mandatory for wrestlers with braces.

Thanks to everyone who could come out and support the team during the varsity wrestle offs.  Rosters are published to the Varsity and JV pages.  All who tried out this week have been placed on a roster, but remember that these are fluid.  Illness, injury or a win/loss in a subsequent wrestle-off could determine whether you move up or down the line up.  

The varsity wrestlers that have a weight class associated with their name on the roster are the starters at that weight class, for the other wrestlers, we will try to maximize their opportunity to wrestle throughout the season, particularly in dual and individual tournaments.  The starter is the odds on favorite to compete in the post season (districts, regionals, states) pending results of any future wrestle-offs.  

Plan for the Week, Nov 11-16:

Practice this week Monday-Friday, 6-8PM in the Aux Gym

Hydration testing for Cumba, Slingwine, Fischer at 5PM at the training room prior to practice

For those with due outs, physicals or concussion training, bring them to Monday's practice and the Assistant Athletic Director will confirm and check you in.

For Saturday, Nov 16, the 3d Annual RED vs BLUE intersquad scrimmage in the Main Gym.

Showtime for Varsity and JV wrestlers is 8AM for setup and warm up.

Wrestling will start around 8:30 and be over by 10:00.

Main objective is to set the varsity lineup for our first meet on Dec 3. But also to orient new wrestlers to how we set up and run home meets and what a "real" match looks like.

Families are invited to come out for the intersquad on Saturday if you can.

The attached roster has a list of individuals and their outstanding requirements to complete the eligibility process. I will also send this to their school email accounts.

This will be a long one, so buckle in: 

1. Tryouts will start on Monday, Nov 11 at 6:00PM to 8:00PM in the Auxiliary Gym. If you are out of town for the federal holiday, will see you on Tuesday.  Tryouts will run through Friday, Nov 15.  To be eligible, you must have the following completed and signed off by the Activities Office (Mr. Qualls):

a. Eligibility form (white/yellow). Confirms class load and grades, physical and concussion training.

b. Updated school physical. Forms available at the Activities Office, or online at patriotpioneers.org.

d. Blue Emergency Card on file with coaching staff.  Available at the Activities Office. 

2. Last Off-season workout is Nov 6, 6:30-8:00PM in the weight room/Aux Gym.  This is the last opportunity to turn in physicals and blue cards to be ready to try out on that next Monday. 

3. List of eligible wrestlers and those that still have requirements to meet is attached.  If you have all green, you are good to go.  

4. Varsity wrestle offs will be on Saturday, Nov 16.  Wrestlers will show at 8:00AM for set up and looking to start by 8:30.  Families are invited to come out to cheer on the team in our 3d annual RED vs BLUE mock dual meet.  JV wrestlers will show to help set up, break down and get a quick workout with the varsity.  

5. Spirit Wear. Link is live for the team store.  The only item that we request individuals to purchase is the blue warm up (if they don't have one already) listed as a mandatory item in the store.  It can be personalized with your name and you keep it.  Proceeds from the store go back to the club, so consider it for your holiday gifts.
