Girls Varsity Dance Team
No Winter Dance season
Hi Dancers and Parents,
We are sure you heard the decisions that have been made regarding winter sports and the no spectators rule. We wanted to make sure we had the most recent information and official confirmation before sending out this email to you.
As it stands, dance will not be permitted to have a winter season where we can perform at basketball games. As dance is not considered a VHSL sport, (we are a club,) we are part of the spectators and so we are not able to be present to perform. We are so sad as we know you will be too reading this.
We have been brainstorming and thinking of what we should do moving forward as honestly, options are somewhat limited. Only out of season sports can practice now (that is us) and that again, would be outside which is not a viable option for us.
Here's our plan. As of now, we ARE permitted to be a part of the fall season which starts in February. The first football game is February 26th. We don't have any dates of when we could do in-person tryouts, as again, as we can't do anything now since we are not in season. However, we ARE planning to do try outs in January that will probably be virtual. If we can do them in person, of course we will. We are taking December off as we also want to see how winter season progresses and than re-evaluate our plan as necessary.
We are doing our very best to support all of our wishes to form a team and have a dance season, regardless of how brief it will be. Dancers perform for themselves and so we know that whether the crowd is 0 or 3000, you would be happy as long as you are dancing. We also care strongly about the safety and well-being of dancers and so keeping in mind COVID-19 best practices, is at the forefront of our minds.
You are not locked in to trying out at all, just by receiving these emails. You can change your mind at any time. Please know that we support your decisions and just want healthy and happy dancers and families.
This does now give you more time to get those physicals completed. They need to be on the VHSL forms that we attached in the previous email. Let us know if you still need them.
Please reach out if you have any questions. We are sad. So very sad. In the meantime, keep dancing! Support PHS by subscribing to the live feed and watch the winter sports from your home. Be sure to show that school spirit, regardless of whether you are in person, dancing and performing, or not. Our pride in PHS has not changed or wavered!
We will be in touch should more information become available and/or things change. There are plenty of virtual dance opportunities that colleges, UDA, etc are offering so be sure to follow them on your social media to learn more about them. Even though our dance team season is put on hold for a bit, it's always easy to keep dance close to your hearts.
We hope you all had a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving! Happy Holidays.
