I wanted to update you on the events for the week.
December 4th (Tomorrow): Varsity Match @ Brentsville H.S. There is no practice for the J.V team. The Varsity Team will meet in Coach Helmick's classroom immediately upon dismal. The bus leaves Patriot to travel to Brentsville @ 4:30pm. Weigh Ins are @ 5:30pm. The wrestling match starts at 6:30pm.
Varsity Wrestlers will wear a collared shirt and tie tomorrow. I will also remind the varsity wrestlers to bring their Patriot Wrestling T-shirt, Sweat Shirt, and fight shorts. I will issue singlets for the match. Bring headgear and wrestling shoes.
I will post an official varsity lineup this evening for the Brentsville Event. There are no J.V. matches for this event.
December 6th: (Friday)
The J.V match (Jamboree) will be at Stonewall Jackson High School @ 6:00pm. All J.V wrestlers will report to the Auxiliary Gym upon dismal. The bus will leave Patriot for Stonewall at 3:30pm. The matches will end at approximately 9:00pm. I will issue singlets on that day.
Varsity wrestlers will have practice.
Our wrestlers will be working on their community service project After practice on Friday.
PHS has asked all athletes to participate in one service project per season. This season the wrestlers will fill shoe boxes with needed items for our homeless community.
See the below list of items to place in your box. Each wrestler is responsible for bringing their own shoebox filled with the below items. The boxes will be wrapped after practice on Friday.
Boxes will be donated as a part of SOMEs "Holiday Shoebox Drive."

The scrimmage with Brentsville was canceled for this Saturday 11/23.
The 2nd team store will close at midnight on Friday 11/22. Please get your order in if you have not done so.
There is a Parent Meeting on Monday, 11/25 @ 5:30pm in Commons 2. If you have any questions, please ask them at the meeting.
There is no school on 11/27. We have practice scheduled from 9am-11am on that day, I have decided to have an intra squad scrimmage. We will have an official as well as keep score. This will be ran like a real match. In order to start at 9:00am, wrestlers will need to be at the school by 8:00am to prepare the mats/ score tables/ etc. This scrimmage will be held in the Auxiliary Gym (where we practice). Parents are invited to attend.
We will be having a parent meeting on November 25, 2019 @ 5:30pm. Please meet in the Commons 2 area.
I have opened another store with goearnit. The store closes on 11/22/2019 this coming Friday. I will not extend the store. It takes 4 to 6 weeks to receive the items. Please order.

follows: Tuesday, November 12th (2:30pm-5:00pm) Wednesday, November 13th (2:30pm-5:00pm) Thursday, November 14th (2:30pm-5:00pm) We will meet in the auxiliary gym each of the above days at 2:30pm (dressed and ready to practice). The locker room will be open for changing. * Bring the following items to tryouts each day: clean gym shorts, t-shirt, sweat shirt, sweat pants, running shoes, water bottle, shower items to include shampoo/soap (anti-bacterial), and a clean towel.
We will be doing more Weight Certifications next week beginning Tuesday, November 12th. My goal is to get all the returning wrestlers certified by the end of next week and begin certifying freshman/ new wrestlers beginning the week of November 18th.
Reminder: In order to be able to participate in next weeks practice/tryouts, an approved eligibility form signed off by Mr. Qualls (Athletic Director) will be needed. Completed concussion training, a current physical, and academically eligible is the criteria to be eligible.
Two days prior to test day:
Drink plenty of fluids throughout the day, (Water has no calories).
Athletes should be drinking at least 8-10 glasses of water during the day
Increase intake of foods high in fiber- this will help with removal of
excess GI content from body. (salad, cereal with skim milk, vegetables,
fruits, etc are examples of foods high in fiber)
Eat smaller, more frequent meals
AVOID foods high in fat (fried foods, meat, french fries, pizza, nuts,
salad dressings, etc.)
AVOID salty foods (potato chips, pretzels, pizza, tuna, crackers, soft
drinks, sports drinks)
- · Be sure that you eat and drink. Do not dehydrate! Do not starve
- One day before test:
- Continue drinking fluids, you should be urinating on a frequent basis.
- Urine should be clear if you are fully hydrated
- Eat smaller, but more frequent meals. Continue eating fibrous foods, to minimize GI content from body
- Fatty foods / snacks will stay in your body – STAY AWAY
- Drink 16 ounces of fluid replacement beverage (Gatorade, Powerade)
- Day of test:
- Eat small portions, eat a very light lunch (if afternoon testing)
- Eat lighter foods such as fruit, grains, etc.
- Continue to drink water
- Do not drink salty drinks such as Sodas
Urinate as frequently as possible throughout the day until one-two
- hours prior to test time
- Use the bathroom (defecate) before the test
- Please be ready to urinate for hydration testing
The Weight Certification Program begins today through the 23rd of November. We will begin our certifications on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 @ 3:00pm. This is open to all returning Patriot Wrestlers from the 2018-2019 season. Their will be further dates assigned for the remaining prospective team members and members which are still actively involved in Fall Sports. All returning wrestlers planning to attend on Wednesday, please meet in Coach Helmick's room (Rm. 2007) after school on the 6th.
If you have not completed your eligibility form, please do so during your lunch period on Wednesday, November 6th.
Returning wrestlers can complete their concussion training online.
Freshman or new wrestlers have to attend the face to face concussion training. If you missed the concussion training at Patriot. There are two other schools offering the training on November 6th. (Battlefield H.S. or Brentsville H.S. @ 7:00pm.
If you need a physical, this is probably the week to get it done.
If you have not completed the eligibility form which verifies you have a current physical, concussion training, and are academically eligible, You will not be able to participate on the November 12th
Wrestling Family, It is hard to believe the wrestling season is upon us. The first day of practice/ tryout begins on Tuesday, November 12th. For all wishing to be part of the 2019-2020 wrestling team, there will be a three day mandatory tryout. The schedule will be as follows: Tuesday, November 12th (2:30pm-5:00pm) Wednesday, November 13th (2:30pm-5:00pm) Thursday, November 14th (2:30pm-5:00pm) We will meet in the auxiliary gym each of the above days at 2:30pm (dressed and ready to practice). The locker room will be open for changing. * Bring the following items to tryouts each day: clean gym shorts, t-shirt, sweat shirt, sweat pants, running shoes, water bottle, shower items to include shampoo/soap (anti-bacterial), and a clean towel. The FCCLA is hosting a Trunk or Treat on October 29th @ Patriot.H.S. Some of the Wrestling Family will be handing out candy for this event. If anyone wishes to donate candy, please bring it to open mat tonight.
Tonight will be the last off season workout before the season begins on November 12th.
I will be putting out additional news in the coming weeks about tryouts, gear to bring, and a calender for the season. For your planning purposes, practices during the week will be after school from 2:30 pm to 5:00 pm. When scheduled, Saturday practices will run from 9am to 11am.
Other important information, wrestlers will need to fill out the Eligibility Check Form and be ruled eligible before attending the first practice/ tryout on November 12th. I have the form for those attending Open Mat tonight (10/24), otherwise the forms will be available during lunch on October 30th and November 6th. This eligible check verifies the wrestler has attended concussion training, has a current physical, and is academically eligible.
Returning wrestlers can do the concussion training online: https://online-concussion.pwcs.edu/. For those who have not completed the face to face training, there is training at Patriot on October 30, 2019 @ 6:30pm.
The store has reopened to order windbreaker jackets. Closes tomorrow 10/18.
Reminder: The store closes on Monday 10/14. Once it closes, the orders will arrive between 4 to 6 weeks. Pass on to other potential wrestlers, there may not be an additional order.
We have added Brentsville to our regular schedule. We will wrestle against them on December 4, 2019 @ Brentsville (Dual) to start the season.
Just a reminder, the store closes just over a week (10/8). The following items are mandatory; fight shorts, t-shirt (cotton), and the hoodie sweatshirt. The singlet and the other items are optional. Remember there is a minimum of 10 orders needed for the item to be printed and processed. If the singlet is purchased, it can worn in tournaments. To date, the following optional items have been purchased: 3 singlets and 6 windbreakers.

The Dual meet with Osbourn Park was moved from January 28, 2020 to January 29, 2020. Same start time (7:00pm)
The varsity schedule is up. I will update the schedule as the season gets closer and as I receive start times. I will post the JV schedule once it is finalized.

You've been invited to begin shopping in the PATRIOT PIONEERS 2019 online store. This online store has been set-up to make the ordering process easier for you. Orders can be placed from September 03, 2019 until October 08, 2019.

For those wrestlers who make the team after tryouts - there will be another period to order items such as sweatshirts, t-shirts etc - with a short turnaround time to get everyone geared up for the season.

I will be setting up a table in the Commons One area on September 17, 2019 (Tuesday) during the lunch periods. All interested students to include the wrestlers from last year, please meet with me during your lunch. I'm trying to gauge the number of wrestlers interested in trying out for this season. If you know any students interested, please encourage them to meet with me on the 17th.
I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. I can't believe the summer is gone. I wanted to update everyone. This week there open mat on the 3rd and 5th (6:45pm-8:15pm). I'm not sure if anyone is wrestling in the super 32 at Hayfield on the 7th. If so let me know,I would like to come watch. I will also be opening the team store through goearnit.com on 9/3. You will be able to purchase team gear until 10/8. I will also be looking to set up a team interest meeting during school lunch in the commons area during the 3rd week of September. Final Reminder: Store closes tomorrow
I have posted the off season workout schedule for August 2019 through October 2019 on the team page under team files. Beginning August 19th, open mat workouts will be held in the evenings . Just a reminder, you must have a current physical to participate.
I have started looking at different vendors for apparel/ clothing. If anyone has any suggestions on items the team would wish to purchase i.e. shirts, sweatshirts, shorts, etc. email me and let me know.

The following wrestlers represented Patriot at the Virginia Tech Team Competition Camp; Connor Callaway, Major McCoy, Vincenzo Corvetto, Zach Yelton, Austin Zehring, and Hunter Swanson. We teamed up with Brentsville High School wrestlers to finish with a 6-3 record. Our wrestlers had anywhere from 10 to 12 matches and were coached and instructed by Virginia Tech wrestlers. It was a great experience for all that attended. Thank you wrestlers and parents.
Just a reminder last years physical expires at the end of the month unless there was a physical completed on and after May 1,2019. If you have been attending off season workouts, you need a current physical to participate.
Just a reminder, off season workouts for wrestling begin next Monday, June 17th (4pm-5:30 pm). Meet at Door 20 next to the weight room. We will be doing circuit training in the gym and some running afterward. Please dress accordingly and wear your running shoes. Also bring water. Please bring your emergency information cards and new physical forms if they have been done. Remember physicals completed last year expire at the end of June. To continue offseason workouts a new physical needs to be completed. These workouts are voluntary. I look forward to meeting everyone. Coach Whited
