From InsideNova article

A week after allowing 66 points in suffering its first loss of the season, Patriot got back on track with a dominating performance Thursday night at Potomac with a 43-22 win behind three touchdowns from running back Jahblessedus Thompson.

As usual with Patriot, though, Thompson had plenty of help on offense especially from wide receiver Nick Mathews who caught seven passes for 165 yards and an electrifying 71-yard touchdown reception off a short slant pass – one of two scores he had in the game.

“We were upset after last week, so be able to come out tonight and win like this puts us in a much better place,” Thompson said. “We were ready to come out and put last week behind us.”

Patriot got to work early in putting the bad memories from last week’s loss behind them. A bad snap on a punt put Patriot in good field position at Potomac’s 27-yard line. Thompson would do the rest from there, carrying the ball on all three plays of the drive, including a 4-yard touchdown run just 1:47 into the game.

The Potomac special teams would struggle again in the second quarter. Forced to punt from their end zone, the snap to punter Logan Mellot again bounced along the turf. He was forced to take a safety as Patriot defenders were quickly on top of him once he gained control of the ball.

Using good field position from the free kick, Patriot scored quickly on its ensuing possession with Thompson finding the goal line again – this time on a 10-yard run with 7:50 left before halftime to give the Pioneers a 16-0 lead.

Potomac, though, would continue to fight. Potomac coach Keith King subbed in Matt Gonzalez at quarterback for Fletcher Washington to begin the second quarter and was rewarded for the move.

Using a more aggressive approach that included Gonzalez rolling out of the pocket to throw, Potomac took the next possession 58 yards for a touchdown of its own with DeMarkeese Nolen and Kendrick Key combining to touch the ball on every possession of the drive in way one or another.

Key would be the one to find the end zone with a 5-yard run with 3:16 left before halftime that ended a scoring drought for the Panthers who were shut out the previous week against Battlefield.

The score brought Potomac into the second half trailing just 16-8, but Patriot’s offense would take over from there and put a comeback out of reach.

The Pioneers took the opening drive of the third quarter 70 yards for a touchdown with Thompson scoring from 19 yards out. After forcing Potomac to punt, quarterback Cody Agnew, who threw for 306 yards, hit Matthews on a short slant that the receiver took 71 yards for a touchdown where he eluded at least four Potomac defenders on his way for the score.

It would end up being the same story again. After forcing a Potomac punt, Patriot scored again with Izaiah Eaves running in from 3 yards out after Matthews put the Pioneers in position with a 51-yard reception down the right sideline.

Those three scores – coming in less than 10 minutes of game time – gave Patriot a 37-8 lead after just being up just eight points at the break.

“Our no huddle offense gives other teams problem, at least we hope,” Thompson said. “The offensive line was just great tonight giving me holes to run through and defensively we were able to put together a better a game and execute what our coaches asked.”
